It's finally time to cut the crown and finish the stone! Here is a photo of our apatite after removal of the first dop. The pavilion is now resting securely in a brass cone dop, and the uncut crown is exposed. You can see a bit of raw, exposed rough in this photo. You can also see the flat that was ground for the original dop.

For the most part, the procedure for cutting the crown is the same as that used for the pavilion. At right, you can see the partially-cut crown, with the characteristic frosted look of the facets.
